Street Committee Meeting
March 10, 2020 - 12:30 p.m.
The meeting was called to order at 12:25 p.m.
Present were Arnold Knox, Director of Streets; Jim Whalen, Jim Bodenhamer and Don Webb, Committee Members; and Mayor Adams.
The Street Report for February 2020 was reviewed.
Arnie reported the Burnett Drive project was going well and the third lane is taking shape and they are working up the hill. After the intersection of Bucher Drive, the crew will move to the other side of Burnett and continue to Beard Drive with the replacement of the existing sidewalk and a new curb. Arnie speculates the project is 33% completed and a total cost as of February 29 is $126,579.18. All the drainage is in and the first retaining wall is complete at the hospice area. The Clysta Willett Park Grant project has been completed just into the month of March, but the total on the report shows through February 29, which is $54,978.74. This is a Grant project and paperwork will be submitted along with an invoice for reimbursement to the Street Department. Arnie reported receipt of the sunshades and installation are all that is left for completion. Maintenance for the month of February was at $32,971.04 with a few of this crew was out working with community service workers, a few were crack sealing for the month, and the rest of this crew were out at the soccer field working on the drainage. The water flow is draining well out there.
Jim B asked Arnie if the project at Pinkston Middle school belonged to the Street Department. Arnie said, yes, this is a pedestrian crossing warning light the Maintenance crew has been working to install. He said this will be included in the March report. Jim asked if the City picked the location or was it the school, and Arnie said, the highway department picked the location and then there was question where the sign would go along with traffic visibility. Originally, the school's EAST group brought this to Arnie's attention. There was some discussion and it was reported the warning light will be in operation today, Tuesday. He added the cost of the light and kit was approximately $7,000.
The Budget Summary was discussed briefly. Jim W. asked what the timeline was on the Spring Street project. Arnie said it would be after the crew at Burnett was completed halfway, and then gone over to work on a Medical Plaza project, then again back to complete Burnett Drive.
The meeting adjourned at 12:40 p.m.
