Street Committee Meeting
June 9, 2020 - 12:30 p.m.
The meeting was called to order at 12:25 p.m.
Present were, Director of Streets Arnold Knox, Don Webb and James Whalen, Committee members.
Arnie reported the crew working on Burnett Drive has moved over to the concrete ditch at 11th Street near South College, to repour a wall that had collapsed a few weeks back. They had reached a good stopping point at Burnett and Bucher, for a week or two and moved over to 11th. The Burnett Drive rebuild project has a cost to date of $332,731.76. Engineering is being done on the rebuild of Burnett Drive to extend down to Buttercup instead of completing at Beard Street. Arnie said he is still working on getting a right-of-way signed from Donna and Dr. Burnett. Just down from the Ear, Nose and Throat office he said there is a two-and-a-half-foot strip they own between the City right-of-way and the field on the right that had not been included in the easement. That is why the sidewalk doesn't go all the way down Buttercup Drive, because they ran out of right-of-way. He told the Committee that Roger Morgan is in discussion with the Burnett's on acquiring that piece. He added, he has another good option which will get the three-lane down to Buttercup. This project will start up again in a week and a half or so, he said.
The Gentry Street rebuild has started and the current cost to this project is at $28,751.93. That crew is working on drainage from Coley Drive to the Small World daycare. Once they reach that section, they will get into Market Street working on drainage where needed and then go over to Thorn Street to rebuild it.
Maintenance has been busy completing the rebuild a portion of Paul Street and Bomber Boulevard. Soft spots were dug out and new asphalt put down. This is why there is a big dollar amount for May's maintenance totaling $98,246.11.
The Budget Summary was reviewed. Arnie reported he is not making any Capital purchases including Federal Surplus, until he gets the sales tax revenues in the next month or two.
The Maintenance crew will begin working on the McCabe Park Trail soon. Arnie said he was at a preconstruction meeting and the City has been cleared to start on this project.
Arnie again said as soon as he gets his sales tax revenue, he would like to make a Christmas light purchase around August. He would like to order double of what he did last year, approximately $50,000 or so.
Designing Phase 2 of the walking trail matching up with ASUMH is underway. Jim asked if there was a possibility of applying for more bike path grants soon. Arnie said he was booked up right now but as time goes it will be looked into.
The meeting adjourned at 12:40 p.m.
