Welcome to The Lifeguard Challenge! We are excited that you are interested in joining our LGI's to take on The Challenge!

To become a Certified American Red Cross Lifeguard, there are 2 physical test that must be passed to be eligible to participate in the full r.24 Lifeguard Certification course through the American Red Cross. The Mountain Home City Pool Managers/Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor's (LGI's) would like to offer you a chance to show them your skills!

This is a great chance for those who are interested in becoming a certified lifeguard, to "dive into" the future! This Challenge is open to both males and females 14 years and older! If you are curious about the physical test, don't let your age deter you! The American Red Cross certifies lifeguards ages 15-senior aged individuals!

What are the 2 swim test? Swim-Tread-Swim & 10 pound Object Removal

Swim-Tread-Swim Description: This event ALLOWS goggles and is NOT a timed event. Stops, Pauses, or Breaks are NOT allowed. Participants must be CONTINUOUSLY moving.

Jump into water and totally submerge
Resurface & Swim 150 yards using the freestyle/front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only legs.
Swim 50 yards using freestyle/front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both to finish out the first challenge.

10 Pound Object Removal Description: This event does NOT allow goggles to be worn, and MUST be completed in 1 minute and 40 seconds.

Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Face may be in or out of the water.
Surface dive (feet-first OR head-first) to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve 10 pound object (brick).
Resurface with the brick and swim on back to starting point. Both hands must stay on brick at all times. Face and mouth must stay above water.
Place brick on the pool deck, and climb out of pool without using the ladder.
